Realizing that only Hades can save Audrey, Mal confesses that she is his daughter and that he'll help them for her. After Mal used the dried ember to defeat Audrey and accidently places her in a death-like state, she remembers what Hades had told about how the ember won't work for her like it does with him. Mal also takes her father's waring about not getting the ember wet to heart, and when it did she tries to use her magic and dragon fire to dry it. When Mal left the isle her father's ember allowed Audrey's spell on her brake for good. Once Mal and Celia were out of the cave, Celia tells Mal that she finally understands why Hades kept asking about her, but the built resentment Mal has for Hades has her telling Celia that to her Hades doesn't exist. As Mal leaves with the ember Hades warns her that once the ember gets wet "its game over". ![]() Hades explains that while they are blood Mal is only "half Hades" and that alone isn't enough to make the ember reach its full potential in her hands like it does with him, but Mal was willing to take her chances. At the end of the song, Mal asks for the Ember so he could make up for being a "lousy father" to her. Hades' words in the song also reveal that he does care about Mal, while she is still angry at him. The two then have it out with each other as they sing "Do What You Gotta Do", with Mal getting on at Hades of not being part of her life while he tells his daughter that she has been better off without him. Hearing this upsets Hades before telling Mal that she knows nothing about having a whole world before being left with nothing when it gets taken away, but Mal states that she does know by coming from nothing before she gained a world that she'll lose if he doesn't give Mal his ember. Hades on the other hand states that the only person he left was her mother and Maleficent not being the most easiest person to life with gives the two of them the common ground of hating Maleficent, but Mal states that she doesn't hate the parent who stuck around. As Hades and Mal begin to talk, Hades mentions the "show" she put on the day before and how he was just "trying" to come over and see her, along with him telling Mal to not be bitter before his daughter reminds Hades that she was only a baby when he abandoned her. Celia was shock when Mal called the trapped god "Dad". The eco sounds of a barking dog makes Mal nervous as she and Celia make their way through the underground tunnel to Hades, who is fast asleep when they spot his ember and believe that they could take it without his knowledge, but just has Mal is able to take the ember Hades catches her in the act. ![]() Since Celia runs errands for Hades and has left the key to his cave with her father, Mal and her friends bring Celia along on their quick trip back to the isle. Once Mal learns that Audrey is the thief and saw what the villain items she stole have turned her into one, Mal realizes that she needs Hades' ember in order to stop her. Even if it means not giving the other villain children the life they deserve. Hades' failed escape attempt sends Auradon into a panic, and after Mal learns that both her mother's sceptre and the Evil Queen's crown were stolen from the museum she comes to the conclusion that the only way to keep Hades trapped on the isle is to keep the barrier up for good. To make sure that Hades remains trap on the isle, Mal turns into her dragon self but Hades uses his ember to drain Mal's magic from her, until Mal used her dragon wings to create a strong gust of wind that pushes Hades away from the barrier until it recloses. ![]() ![]() There have also been times when Hades asks his errand runner, Celia Facilier, questions about Mal.Īs Mal was bringing the next group of young VKs to Auradon, so they can be given the same chance that she and her friends were given, Hades takes advantage of the open barrier so he can escape before it could close. At most point, Mal was told that the only thing that can stand a chance against her mother's staff is her estrange father's ember. While Hades works on his fondness for music when he isn't looking for a weakness in the barrier to escape through, and after his many attempts failed he makes his lair out of one of the underground tunnel system that his minions dug under the isle. This has Mal keeping their family connect a secret from everyone, apart from Mal's best friend Evie. Because of his choice and did nothing to stay in contact with his daughter, Mal grew up hating Hades for leaving her to be raised by someone who cares more about revenge than her. Mal is the daughter that Hades had with Maleficent, but once the love he had for Maleficent was gone he realizes that the best thing he could do for Mal is to leave her to be raised by his ex-wife without him having any part in their lives.
