I wear riding jeans in summer and textile waterproof pants in rain and winter. I'll take pants to work Monday, leave them at work hanging up in a locker during the week. I work in a corporate office that has a shower/change room in the building with lockers. I'm in Brisbane too and am starting to put together my kit for colder months. I think that just about covers it, any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated Being able to get it locally in Brisvegas would be a plus.Prefer to spend up to around $350-400 but will stretch to $500 or so if it's a good deal or otherwise really good gear.Being able to zip the two together would be preferred.Suitable for standard/upright riding position. Some degree of waterproofing would be nice for protection from light showers (will be getting a rainsuit for if I get caught in a torrential downpour).Should be suitable for at least 3 seasons, already have lighter mesh stuff for the peak of summer.CE-rated armour is a must (OK with replacing back protectors however).Must be able to wear over regular clothes.Don't want to bore people with useless waffle so I'm gonna cut right to the chase and list what I'm looking for: At the moment I'm mostly looking for a decent jacket and pants set for commuting to and from uni and work, but I don't really know where to start. My experience is very much the opposite, though I'm very happy with mine, too.Picking up a bike this weekend, so I need to start looking at getting some gear before I consider tootling around on it. I haven't read or heard of anyone else's experience. I don't know if a better suit would have fared better or not, but I was quite shocked at how much it came apart. His suit got pretty tore up, though he came out ok. I did have one buddy who owned the Olympia Stealth (I have one too) who had a minor wreck. There must be twelve feet of velcro and more than that in zippers. I think there are ten pockets on the suit. I think they could lighten it up by 20% if they just took out half the pockets. As you mention the suit has acres of pockets, zippers, velcro, and fasteners. Hard to say how many miles are on mine, but it's probably around 40,000. Overall, I think it's a good budget suit and it's held up well. ![]() Apparently they make these for very large people. I have the cinches all about as tight as they will go. ![]() With the medium on, the suit is a little too short for me, but at least the excess bulk is a little more manageable. There is way too much material around the arms and waist. I put on the large suit and I was swimming in it. I had to buy mine one size smaller than normal. Even in really cold weather, I've found it simpler just to layer up my clothing underneath, and a heated vest does wonders. 90 is about the absolute maximum, though I've worn it in hotter weather than that for short spans. I've regularly worn it down into the 30s, and once or twice into the teens. On the opposite end, I can wear Phantom up to about 80 degrees comfortably. That said, I've not found it to be too terrible to stop to put a light rainsuit on, under which I'll stay completely dry. Over time, I've found that the zippers leak pretty badly. I wore it in a few rain showers and the most I got was a little wet on my arms. It stayed waterproof for the first six months or year that I owned it. My experience is very much the opposite, though I'm very happy with mine, too. My suspicion is that they're going to be much the same, and it'll be a case of picking whichever fits the best.Ĭlick to expand.Weird. I'll probably drag myself down to Guildford next week and take a better look. I'm not sure that the Admiral will fit, as the sizing chart says it's a 33.5" inside leg, and I'd need another inch or more on top of that. I read that Gadget Boy didn't have a lot of luck with his Spidi, I think that it was with the (older style) zip, but haven't tracked down the full story. ![]() My biggest concern is that I've heard reports of the double stitched seams coming apart, which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. The Olympia seems to get generally good reviews, but I've heard it can leak in wet weather. It's a simple design, and lacks the enormous number of straps that festoon the Olympia. Does anyone know if this is a problem?īeing shallow, I like its style. I've taken a look at the BMW suit, and there doesn't appear to be any reinforcements on impact points such as the knees and elbows. There's not a lot of difference between them in terms of price. The options that I can pick up locally are the BMW Coverall, Olympia Phantom, and an end of line Spidi Admiral E-Type (with the non-drysuit zip). I'm toying with getting a one-piece textile suit.
